My wonderful INDIA!

What is it with us??? Why do we underestimate ourselves?? Everytime I hear someone say 'bloody Indians' when they are irritated or impatient waiting somewhere or for any bloody reason, my blood boils. I want to say, "what the hell are you?" How are you helping India to be a better place than any one else. How refined are your manners? Do you really care to keep your country clean?? Puuuulllllhhhhhlllllleeeeeeeeeeezeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Why are we so ashamed of ourselves? Our dear India is so beautiful, in every sense!!! She has a rich culture, endowed with fabulous history and legendary ancestors! ....and what do we do??

I have nothing against westerners or their culture, but i was just watching 'Roadies' on MTV. I felt so sad, where our youngsters priorities lie! Why cant we promote something that is our culture, at the same time a lot of fun. The girls are more interested in showing skin and using swear words and what not, I dont even want to mention the guys!!! Of course, to each his own!!! sometimes, that's the whole problem!!

While the rest of the world resorts to India-originated Yoga, our culture and everything else, we on the other hand, are losing it!! (Dont get me wrong, I do enjoy and appreciate the culture, beauty and uniqueness of every country, but I dont believe in putting down my country to praise another one! )Yes, we are losing it! We dont need to lose our identity to adopt and ape someone else for the heck of it, sans meaning!

I am a proud Indian!!! We have such wonderful things to be proud of....Can anybody dance as gracefully as our Indian Classical Dancers? Is any other music as soothing and divine as ours?? Can you find any of the so-called-herbal creams as effective as our natural beauty treatments, that our moms and grandma practised and recommended?? Many of my friends and relatives abroad are more appreciative of India and everything 'home'ly. Does it mean we understand the value of our country, only after we leave and are living in a foreign land either by choice or circumstances??!!!

I dont know, I really dont know.....BUT I wont give up! I will always love my country and do every bit to show how beautiful my country is! India is a wonderful country endowed with all the natural beauty and with the right marketing, we will rule the world !!!!

India is beautiful and everything else.

But people (a vast majority) here don't hold themselves accountable for anything...that is where the problem lies.

For example our culture says “Athithi devo bhav” and we also proudly pat our backs and teach our children the same thing but when tourists come down we steal, rape and commit atrocities on them which is in stark contrast with how other country men treat their guests. They may not have our glorified and precious traditions but they are courteous, human and most importantly hold themselves accountable.

We have a “Sadhu” who stands on new born’s to bless them and we have parents who refuse to accept medical help for these babies when they suffer from the affects of a grown man standing on them. Some of them even die…and this is been happening for more than 10 years....

We curse the MTV culture showcasing some profanities which in truth fades away in comparison to the atrocities which can be seen aplenty in the name of ‘culture” and “tradition”. So what if a few girls and boys decide to come out publicly with their silliness when we can attend to the issues which are definitely high priority.

Sometimes though I dislike America returned yuppies I cannot proudly defend my country as I would like to because…

Hi Lipstick, I do agree with you that we do follow certain traditions or practices, without really understanding why we do it and continue to follow them blindly. But how many of us really try and understand "why"?? Earlier, people were illiterate and to induce some discipline, an element of fear was induced to ensure some order in society. My concern is that why do the so-called few "modern" Indians not do anything about it, instead of simply complaining about India? whatever bit you can contribute, simple things like you dont litter the roads, you keep your surroundings clean...I know a lot of people who will shut up and follow the rules when they go abroad, but will clearly ignore rules in India. I am only referring to such people.Nobody is born perfect, you should atleast strive for perfection.

I agree with Lipstick... no one accepts accountability for anything. Did not know about the man who stands on babies to bless them... will look it up.

Once I was having a family discussion and just asked - "how could people live in other countries? My country is so beautiful - I could never think of living is a foreign country....." The reply I got was - "You are telling this because - you did not get a chance" - Well, I was too shocked to continue that conversation. Once I heard one of my office colleague saying to her husband - "Jaanu - let's get out of this shitty country...."
Unfortunately, many people around us think like this...

easy to say - loving your country includes several oft-forgotten "soft" elements like:
1. exercising your franchise (voting)
2. not buying/ viewing pirated CDs
3. adhering to traffic regulations - signals, seat belts, helmets...
before we get to burglars, murders, rapists etc. (which most of us are not), ask yourself if you can follow these simple things...
