I strongly believe that it is essential that you value, respect and love yourself as a person first, before expecting others to...so sometimes my impulsive behaviour, tendency to get hurt easily, anger, lack of strength in certain situations not only makes me feel helpless but is a huge disappointment in myself!

When I think about it, I feel that I am not there...but definitely getting there...slowly but steadily...I have learnt to keep quiet, certainly with much effort, when i am fuming inside...yet, I do keep quiet! Frankly, i hate myself for doing it but it is the key to survival! Like my Dad says very often, 'Take it all in, absorb it....you will get a chance too! Every dog has its day!'

Over a period of time, I have learnt time and again that you should never take anything for granted, be it relationships, friends or your career. I have heard from a lot of people that when contentment sets in, there is no ambition in you..you are not charged up anymore. You become complacent....on the other hand, I feel when you are content with your life, a sense of calm accompanies that feeling which shows in your happiness and fulfillment that it gives.

It is your life and all said and done, only you can control the way you look at it. You make a choice how you would like to lead it...no skepticism, no negativity...only pure unadulterated optimism....am gonna say this to myself very often....sort of self- suggestion and the positive thoughts in all respects and aspects will work its charm and I will be surrounded by positive energy and good vibes. There, I made a start!

Well... I've argued enough with friends about this ambition thing... being content with where you are now DOES NOT indicate that you are not ambitious... it is just a way to say that things are on track. I feel that if we are too focused on the future, we may not know when the present slips away.

precisely...also contentment is also about acknowledging and being thankful for what you are already blessed with in all aspects

It is great to be spontaneous, carpe diem, etc, but in real world, just like in Jab We Met, these kind of people will be taken advantage of. Both you and I are included in 'that' kind. It is better to 'act' 'matured(?)' to protect ourselves. But, not at the cost of turning into someone you are not, because you should know strongly you are just 'acting.'

Regarding contentment or personality, key is to have a balance. That does not mean being like a dead body, just you can choose different people and places for different things. Like you can be spontaneous with close dear ones, frigid with people you don't like, warm but un-involved with strangers...

Disclaimer: I am not an expert in balancing various aspects of life, if anything, I am floundering/failing...

If people exasperate you, you can blow your top... Nothing wrong with expressing yourself. I think controlling one's emotions is a conditioning that comes with "growing older" that I often associate with becoming 'mechanical' and 'controlled'.......somehow, not virtues in my text book. But then as you say, key to survival...lay in being in 'control'....

Perhaps that is why adults are less innocent than kids, more wary, more calculating and certainly, less trusting.

Just rambled here...but thats what I think. Maybe your ability to be "yourself" is a virtue you should not lose...to growing up and becoming mature....

hey revathi!

wrote that in a moment of exasperation to calm myself...but I totally agree with what you say..

hey ritu!
your thoughts echo my feelings exactly...but sometimes you have to, rather forced to keep quiet...I surprise myself with my so called 'balance'...in my heart of hearts, I don't like it.
